Brian Butler Music

"First and foremost I am a drummer. After that, I'm other things ... My soul is that of a drummer...." Ringo Starr

My interest in music was sparked at a very early age. My mother was a wonderful musician who taught and played piano. My father plays most brass & woodwind instruments and continues to actively play gigs.

Formal training began in 1964 when I started private drum study at Peter F. D'Addario's Music Studio with Harry Ashmore. In 1970, I played my first professional gig on New Year's Eve. I continued to play with my father’s band, The Bobby Butler Quartet. During this time period my brother Barry and I started the Butler Brothers Band covering Beatles, Rolling Stones, Marshall Tucker, Allman Brothers and many others. My brother, who plays guitar, mandolin, and fiddle, is an accomplished player in his own rite.

In the late 1970’s, I joined White Onyx, a band specializing in weddings, and from there,  made the transition to other wedding projects including Relation, The Pizazz Band and the Nightbreeze Band.

Having a love for jazz, I formed both the Brian Butler Quartet and the Brian Butler Band, covering traditional jazz standards playing throughout the tri-state area.

"The key to success is to surround yourself with talented players".  Marge Hull

This approach was taught to me by my grandmother, a professional musician and teacher, who opened the Marge Hull School of Music. Taking her advice, I have surrounded myself with accomplished players and have been able to tap into a wonderful resource of professional musicians. I continue to play numerous society gigs, weddings, night clubs and jazz venues.

Joe Cutrone attended Berklee College of Music and studied with Linc Chamberlain, Dave Liebman and George Garzone among others.  Joe has played many venues of music throughout his 30 year plus career, including local gigs as well as cross country touring.  Currently Joe plays locally with several jazz and popular bands, and teaches privately as well.

Jim's musical journey started on the professional level in the sixties in
San Francisco where he began touring & recording for the Jazz Crusade label. There were many gigs and recording's at this time with many revivalists from the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Through-out the seventies Jim toured the United States with the Billy Fellows Band, Carol Fredette, and Tom Everet. In the eighties Jim found himself drawn to New Orleans Jazz where he played festivals in Europe and the United States. The majority of the nineties was spent in the New York area working with the Concrete Country Swing Band. Mostly self taught, Jim studied with a wonderful classical teacher Sal Maccia, and Jeff Fuller, a tremendously accomplished player and teacher. To these two gentlemen Jim is greatly indebted. Now back in Fairfield County, he works as a bassist on call for a number of groups.

John has been playing guitar for almost 20 years.  A music major in college, he later studied with some of the finest musicians in the jazz community (musicians such as Sal Salvador, Mark Elf, Jack Wilkins, and Walt Weiskopf.)  In addition to playing with the Brian Butler Quartet, John also performs with his own trio, plays solo gigs, and teaches privately.

Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents.  ~Ludwig van Beethoven
